In the last couple of weeks, you might have noticed a major difference with your business Instagram account. Instagram has implemented a new update to hide the likes. Not every business will see this update on their profile. It is only happening in certain countries and with selected users. Why did Instagram start hiding likes and how will this change affect celebrities, influencers, and even business owners? It’s burning the question everyone wants to know.
Here are the top 3 things you need to know about Instagram’s new update:
1. Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri thinks this change will help influencers and businesses focus more on their content.
Adam Mosseri wanted users to stop focusing on the feedback of others and instead,
focus on the content that is being presented by the user. He also acknowledges that in
today’s climate, businesses compete on social media and often place too much focus on
follower counts.
2. “Likes” to your photos and videos will not be removed.
Like to your images and videos posted on Instagram will not disappear; however, the numbers will only be visible to you and not your followers. To view the followers who liked your pictures in the app, select “Others.” It’s important to note that celebrities and influencers will experience a slight variation while using the app. For example, if we take a look at a key Instagram influencer and celebrity such as Kim Kardashian, we would see that instead of having “Others” on her posts, the words “a million others” will appear under her likes.
3. Not every business or brand will be affected by the new update (for now)!
Only a select part of the U.S. will be affected by the change. News of the new feature was released in April 2019, and the update officially began to go into effect on November 17, 2019. Just in case you are wondering, there is no way you can choose to be exempted from the update.
Whether your business or brand has been affected by the new Instagram update or not, it’s always a good idea to be strategic and reevaluate your content creation regularly. Be intentional about creating content that resonates with your target audience. What do you think about the new update? Comment below.
